Northern Powergrid Receives An Order Of Distinction At ROSPA Awards

Northern Powergrid, the region's electricity distributor, has been awarded an Order of Distinction by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) in recognition of achieving its 17th consecutive Gold Medal for its safety record.

The company, which delivers power to 3.9 million homes and businesses across the North East, Yorkshire and northern Lincolnshire, was awarded the Order of Distinction for receiving its 17th consecutive annual Gold Medal in its North East licence area. Northern Powergrid also received its 14th Gold Medal in its Yorkshire licence area and was awarded the Presidential Award.

The RoSPA awards are internationally recognised symbols of safety excellence and recognise Northern Powergrid’s on-going commitment to safety. Each year's Gold Medal has been attained by Northern Powergrid achieving a very high level of performance, demonstrating well developed occupational health and safety management systems and culture, outstanding control of risk and very low levels of error, harm and loss.

Geoff Earl, Northern Powergrid's safety, health and environment director, said: "The RoSPA Health and Safety Awards are key fixture in the health and safety calendar and offer organisations a prime opportunity to prove their on-going commitment to raising health and safety standards.
